8½ years
For decades I believed I was destined to fail
because of fatal flaws in my character.
I lacked two of the qualities that distinguish great achievers:
grit and perseverance.
It didn't matter what I started,
I either stopped because I got bored
or gave up because I encountered obstacles that I couldn't see past.
Then a car accident turned my life upside down.
Depression kicked in,
turning my fear of failure into a reality.
I became the loser that I had long feared I was.
In this desperate situation
I was forced to take a self-save, self-discovery journey.
I knew it would make or break me.
What I discovered along the way was more than I dared imagine.
This book chronicles the journey of a mediocre loser like me,
riding a roller coaster of hope and despair for 8 and a half years.
While my struggles may pale in comparison to others',
they felt like hell at the time.
Now, I want to share my story with those
facing similar circumstances.
There are unlimited possibilities in life.
Inside the flaws hides the strength that will glorify your being.
Be patient.
It will come.

"If you ask me, what does this book mean to me? It is indeed a great question. This book bears my faith in life. This book records an 8-and-half-year biological process of ‘turning pupa into a butterfly.’ Thanks to the accident, I had been reduced from a caterpillar to a pupa. I was enclosed in my thick cocoon, searching for meaning, searching for a way out, searching for a breakthrough. It was the suffering, struggling, questioning, trying, failing, experimenting, and forgiving, that forged my mind, my body, and my spirit. Many times I thought of giving up. But the universe has a way to cheer me up, again and again, leaving me all the signs to follow. Yes, I followed, I learned, I grew, and I transformed. One day I broke through the cocoon. I can fly. This book becomes my wings that take me further towards my destiny: a decent and useful human being who is here to create, serve, and help."
Read what reviewers have said about my book
"A very interesting read, especially about Miao growing up in China and the cultural differences. An accident knocked her confidence but, with determination, she pulled herself back. I found the first half of the book more interesting .. Miao growing up, studying in Switzerland, meeting her future husband and the differences between them. The second half of the book was dedicated to how she overcame her lack of confidence with the help of Master Yang and other projects… still interesting but somehow I could not relate to it. The grammar is not perfect, however, as English is Miao's second language it is very good and well written, with lots of humour."
Diane Hepworth, UK
"I must say, this book has by far exceeded any expectations I may have had and I believe it could be very well received by a large audience. I absolutely love the style. Miao is sharing very personal, honest and deep thoughts. Through her book, I got to know her in a new way. I read about her childhood in China with great interest, somehow this touches me deeply as if I too have a past there. Her words make me feel more humble and less afraid of admitting all my shortcomings. I enjoy hearing about all the things she did in her life and how she approached them fully and wholeheartedly. In many passages I can absolutely identify with her experience, so often have I felt very much the same way. Outstanding work, Miao!"
Juliette Fong, Switzerland
"I was honored to read the beautiful book for review before it was published. It is an incredible story about Miao's life after a terrible accident that dramatically changed everything she knew. It is a journey of how she managed to pull herself out of a downward spiral of physical and mental pain and become whole again. A truly inspiring story that gave me the last push to change things in my life too."
Christina Kaufmann, Germany
"I so enjoyed this book - it was an easy read and I loved discovering things about Miao that I would never have known otherwise. Thank you for opening up your heart and sharing your journey, following your dreams and having the determination to succeed. You have highlighted the issues around mental health and I hope your story can help others as well. You are an overcomer and a great example. Love your heart!"
